Initially, it is helpful to provide:
- A letter of approach or brief summary of the case.
- The type of report required (e.g. screening report, breach of duty, causation or condition & prognosis).
- The specific questions you would like me to address.
- Any relevant Court timetable or reporting deadlines.
Following an initial review, we will confirm:
- Whether the case falls within my area of expertise.Â
- Whether any conflict of interest exists.Â
- My availability to accept the case.Â
- An estimated timescale for completion of the report.Â
- My current medico-legal fee schedule.Â
- A copy of my full medico-legal CV, if required.Â
If I am able to accept the case, we will provide our Terms & Conditions for review and signature before formal instructions are accepted. Once agreed, we will request the Letter of Instruction, relevant medical records and any supporting documentation.
For efficient review, please provide medical records in chronological order, with clear pagination and indexing where possible. A chronology of events is also appreciated, as this assists with timely review and report preparation.

What types of cases do you accept?
I accept instructions relating to a broad range of general and colorectal surgical matters, including clinical negligence and personal injury cases. My practice encompasses both elective and emergency surgery. Please see the Areas of Expertise section for further details.
Do you accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors?
Yes. I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors, provided there is no conflict of interest and the case falls within my area of expertise.
Are your reports compliant with CPR Part 35?
Yes. My reports are prepared in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR Part 35), with my overriding duty being to the Court.
Do you examine claimants?
Sometimes. Whether a claimant requires an examination depends on the nature of the case and the questions being addressed. Some reports can be prepared from a review of the medical records alone, while others require a face-to-face examination. Where appropriate, discussions with the claimant may also be undertaken remotely.
Do you attend Court?
Yes. I am able to attend Court and provide expert evidence where required.
How quickly can you complete a report?
Report turnaround times vary depending on the complexity of the case, the volume of medical records and my current workload. Following an initial review, I will provide an estimated timescale for completion.
How much do your reports cost?
My current medico-legal fee schedule is available on request. Once I have reviewed the nature of the instruction, we will provide a quotation based on the work required.
Can you undertake urgent instructions?
Urgent instructions can often be accommodated, depending on the nature of the case and my current availability. Please contact my secretary to discuss your requirements.
Can I obtain a copy of your medico-legal CV?
Yes. A full medico-legal CV is available upon request and will be provided during the instruction process.
