Why Instruct Mr Peter Asaad
As an active NHS Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon, I combine current clinical practice with formal expert witness training to provide independent, balanced and evidence-based medico-legal opinions. I maintain a busy elective and emergency general and colorectal surgical practice, managing a broad spectrum of benign and malignant conditions. As I remain actively involved in day-to-day patient care, my opinions reflect current standards of practice, contemporary surgical decision-making and evolving clinical guidelines.
Medico-Legal Expertise
I have undertaken comprehensive expert witness training through CUBS (Cardiff University Bond Solon), including report writing, civil law and procedure, courtroom skills and cross-examination. This complements my clinical experience and supports the preparation of clear, evidence-based reports in accordance with CPR Part 35.

Alongside my clinical practice, I hold senior leadership and educational roles within the NHS, including Deputy Clinical Director for Surgery, Trust Specialty Training Lead (TSTL) and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University. These roles reflect my commitment to clinical governance, maintaining high standards of surgical practice, and communicating complex medical issues in a clear and structured manner.

My overriding duty as an expert witness is to the Court. I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and provide impartial opinions based on the available evidence, my clinical expertise and current accepted practice.

Medicolegal Services
I provide independent medico-legal reports relating to general and colorectal surgery for solicitors, insurers and other legal professionals. I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and prepare reports in accordance with CPR Part 35.
My work includes clinical negligence and personal injury cases, together with breach of duty, causation, condition and prognosis reports. I also undertake screening reports, participate in joint expert discussions and joint statements, and attend Court where required.
Where appropriate, I am able to examine claimants as part of the medico-legal assessment. In cases where a physical examination is not required, consultations may also be undertaken remotely.
All potential instructions are reviewed promptly to ensure they fall within my area of expertise, that no conflict of interest exists, and that I am able to provide an independent opinion within the required timescales. Where I am able to accept instructions, I aim to communicate promptly and deliver reports within agreed deadlines.

My medico-legal practice encompasses the full spectrum of general and colorectal surgery. I accept instructions relating to a wide range of elective and emergency surgical conditions, including:
Diagnosis, investigation, surgical management, emergencies, post-op complications & long-term outcomes.
Diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, colorectal polyps & other benign colorectal conditions.
Haemorrhoids (piles), anal fissures, anal fistula, pilonidal disease and other benign anorectal disorders.
Emergency laparotomy, bowel obstruction, bowel perforation, peritonitis, ischaemic bowel, appendicitis, pancreatitis and other acute surgical presentations.
Formation and reversal of ileostomies and colostomies, together with the assessment and management of stoma-related complications.
Gallstone disease, abdominal wall hernias and other elective general surgical conditions within my routine clinical practice.

If I am able to accept the case, we will provide our Terms & Conditions for review and signature before formal instructions are accepted. Once agreed, we will request the Letter of Instruction, relevant medical records and any supporting documentation.
For efficient review, please provide medical records in chronological order, with clear pagination and indexing where possible. A chronology of events is also appreciated, as this assists with timely review and report preparation.

What types of cases do you accept?

Are your reports compliant with CPR Part 35?
Yes. My reports are prepared in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR Part 35), with my overriding duty being to the Court.
Do you examine claimants?
Sometimes. Whether a claimant requires an examination depends on the nature of the case and the questions being addressed. Some reports can be prepared from a review of the medical records alone, while others require a face-to-face examination. Where appropriate, discussions with the claimant may also be undertaken remotely.
Do you attend Court?
Yes. I am able to attend Court and provide expert evidence where required.
How quickly can you complete a report?
Report turnaround times vary depending on the complexity of the case, the volume of medical records and my current workload. Following an initial review, I will provide an estimated timescale for completion.
How much do your reports cost?
My current medico-legal fee schedule is available on request. Once I have reviewed the nature of the instruction, we will provide a quotation based on the work required.
Can you undertake urgent instructions?
Urgent instructions can often be accommodated, depending on the nature of the case and my current availability. Please contact my secretary to discuss your requirements.

Yes. A full medico-legal CV is available upon request and will be provided during the instruction process.
